Power through the day with this naughty but nice Choc Chip Cookie Protein Shake made with Arla Organic milk - shake it, don’t stir!
If we haven’t already said hi before… Hello! Welcome to my life… one filled with family, friends, work and well, of course, food! I wouldn’t be a food blogger if I wasn’t thinking about food every minute of every hour each day. Ok, so I take a break from time to time, but I’ll hold my hands up and say that one of the last thoughts that crosses my mind as my head touches the pillow each night is ‘what shall I have tomorrow?’
It’s a busy life, there’s no children (yet!) but he and I manage to have enough chaos going on to fill every waking minute. So when Arla Organic asked if I’d share my day, I thought why not…
Rise and Shine
I’m sure our mornings are pretty much the same as most households across the UK… finding work clothes, packing bags, remembering that lunch is in the fridge just as you’re going and a good old cuppa to get you going!
Whether it’s a dreary Monday, a feeling fabulous Friday or a lazy Sunday lie-in, there is nothing better than a steaming mug of Earl Grey – no sugar please, and a splash of organic milk. Yes, I’m a Builder’s Tea Earl Grey kinda girl. And when I get into work, there’s always a pot of coffee on within minutes with a good glug of organic milk topping off my rocket fuel.
But breakfast isn’t just about tea and coffee, they say you should breakfast like a King, and weekends were made for indulgent morning treats, and there’s nothing better than Sunday morning easy pancakes light and fluffy and full of creamy organic milky goodness.
Elearning might not be the most glamorous of jobs but being a learning designer means my weeks can be pretty varied. If you’re following me on Instagram, you’ll have seen that I’ve spent days inside supermarkets filming all sorts of training videos, other days it’s all about trains, and then there’s admin days and office days.
To wind down it’s a stress-busting game of badminton with my colleagues or a charge up and down the pool followed by a soak in the jacuzzi and a sauna, and on those days where I’m sat in the office with the automated lights switching off around me, I’ll squeeze in a 30min Couch to 5k… and to recover after… there’s more organic milk.
Adding organic milk to my protein shakes means that if it's just a straight up vanilla or a choc chip cookie one, I know I’m getting a good dose of healthy nutrition to refuel and recover with. And as I’m feeling generous, I've popped my Choc Chip Cookie Protein Shake made with fresh and delicious Arla Organic milk below. Check it out.
But before you do…
At the end of a long day, you’ll find both of us unashamedly sprawled on the sofa, finishing off the day with another mug again. Now don’t judge me, you might think we’re old before our time, but it’s feet up, telly catch-up and a good hug on a mug of hot chocolate… made the proper way, of course. Warm organic milk, frothy and velvety, poured slowly over the top of dark organic chocolate, whisked to perfection. There’s no need to add any extras, its perfect just the way it is, and it certainly helps me drift off to the land of nod, ready to start all over again the next day…
Going Organic… with Arla Organic
Before you skip straight to the recipe, wait here and take a read of the factoid bit…
As much as I can when choosing food products, I’ll buy organic and we’re particularly lucky to have a wide range of organic producers in our little corner of the Cotswolds, and we grow some of our own fruit and veggies without any chemicals… the main fight is getting to the cherries or berries before the birds! But when we do, they are the freshest, sweetest and tastiest going.
It’s the same for Arla Organic free-range milk; the taste is fresh and creamy, that feels straight from the cow… and these cows are a little bit special. Currently, only 89 British farms provide Arla with organic, free-range milk and their cows are grazed outside on 100% organically farmed land whenever possible.
Arla farmers don’t believe in intervention with nature – there’s no chemical sprays here, just fabulous sustainable farming with a careful selection of crop varieties to keep the soil fertile and control weeds and pests. Couple that with higher animal welfare standards, that the farmers go by, so when you choose organic you can also be safe in the knowledge that you are also choosing higher animal welfare standards and sustainable farming… exactly why I try and buy organic as much as I can!
And there’s one thing more… when you choose Arla Organic milk, whether it’s the creamy whole milk or if you prefer to pour semi-skimmed over your morning cereal – all the profits go straight back to the farmers who put their care into making this nutritious and delicious milk.
Proud farmers of awesome cows!!
And if you needed a little more persuading…
Did you know that the humble glass of milk (that’s a 200ml glass of semi-skimmed to you and me) is a little bit of a nutritious superhero? It gives us…
- 31% of our recommended daily calcium (needed for the maintenance of normal bones and teeth)
- 74% of our recommended daily vitamin B12 (contributes to the normal function of the immune system)
- 41% of our recommended daily iodine (contributes to normal cognitive function)
- 35% of our recommended daily vitamin B2 (Riboflavin) (contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue)
- 16% of our recommended daily potassium (contributes to the maintenance of normal blood pressure)
- 14% of our recommended daily protein (contributes to the maintenance and growth of muscle mass)
See that one glass packs a nutritious punch! You won’t look at it the same way again… Check out the Dairy Council for more info on recommended daily intakes.
